PILOT INFORMATION:

When flying to the Bahamas, private pilots need to understand the complexity of flying over water for significant

distances. The Bahamas can be navigated via VOR's. This method is not recommended. A GPS (2) is highly

suggested.

When entering the Bahamas, you must land at an official Airport of Entry. It is suggested that you land before

4pm (and during a weekday) to facilitate customs and your ground transportation. Arriving after 5pm, you will be

subject to "overtime fees" and additional landing fees and customs fees.

General Aviation aircraft are not permitted to land in the Bahamas after official sunset or before sunrise, unless

an official I.F.R. flight plan has been filed. Pilots are required to have the current approach plates and proper

instrumentation on board to successfully complete an IFR landing.

At controlled airports, pilots are advised to contact the tower when within 20 nautical miles from the airport.

This contact will facilitate the landing procedures. When approaching non-controlled airports (most airports are

non- controlled), the pilot is expected to announce the: Aircraft type, Identfication number, Location, and

Intentions over the universal unicom frequencey of 122.8. The pattern altitude at uncontrolled airports is

stipulated @ 1,000 feet. A lefthand traffic pattern is to be assumed.

The Bahama Islands are rich in history. From the pirate ships to the settlements of the English Monarchy. Each

island was scripted from a different author. Please visit the particular islands to get a glimps of the islands

beginnings.

The activities of the Bahamas and Caribbean Islands are based around the beautiful crystal clear oceans

that surround them.


Scuba Diving:

BAHAMAS DIVING ASSOCIATION OFFICIAL SITE

The islands are perfect for Scuba diving and Snorkeling. The visibility of the waters surrounding the

islands is greater than 100 feet of visibility year round. The water temperature is usually a baumy 80

degrees. The only reason a wet suit is necessary is to keep from being stung by the fire coral or bitten

by the sea lice. The diving scene is diverse. From shallow reef dives to wreck dives over 130 feet.



Snorkeling:

Snorkeling is a perfect activity for the islands. Coral reefs can be found feet from the shore. Equipment can be

easily rented for a day or for the extent of your stay. The outer Islands offer undisturbed underwater beauty.

Due to the lack of construction and its associated pollution, the out islands oceans have remained

undisturbed. You'll remember your underwater diving adventure for a long, long time.



Golf:

There are several golf courses found in the Bahamas. The courses are found on; Nassau, Grand Bahama,

Treasure Cay, Abaco, and Rock Sound, Eleuthera.



Tennis:

Bring your racquet. While in Exuma, you can have the local pro give you a couple of tips. He's the only

Bahamian to have play on the grass @ Wimbeldon.

ACCOMMODATIONS:

The Bahamas economy is based on tourism. You can expect to find five star hotels on the large islands

and small quaint cottages on the outer islands. Please visit the individual islands to learn more about the

DINING:

If you enjoy seafood, you are in for a pleasant suprise. The lobster (a.k.a.- Crayfish) caught that morning will be

found on your fork with a side of peas and rice. The seafood is caught off the particular islands all year long.

You'll find very nice restaurants and friendly, courteous service.

WEATHER

The weather in the Bahamas and Caribbean Islands is created by the tropical breeze and cloudless skies.

The year round temperature is approximately 75-80 degrees (F). The water temperature also remains

constant at around 75 degrees. There are occassional storms and the possibility of Hurricanes

(August through October). These tropical storms, are usually short in duration. Make sure to bring

NIGHTLIFE

The nightlife is dependent on the island you've decided to visit. Nassau and Freeport have large resorts

and gaming facilities that promote the after hours entertainment similar to Las Vegas. The out islands

are more subdued after sunset. They have small bars and clubs that promote a neighborly atmosphere.
